Timmy, Keenan, and I met up with photographer John Nimerfroh this morning at 8th street to see perfect lefts running down the beach. Timmy was on fire doing huge airs and getting some really good tubes. He compared the waves to a fun day at home in Ventura. Thanks to John for getting the shots and Jon Coen at ESPN for the sick post!!

Team Ocean City 4x NSL Cup Champions!!

Shaun Burrell and the National Surf League made an excellent call to put The Game on hold almost a week to wait for yesterdays swell. The surf was going off and kids from every school were ripping! After watching the groms free surf before the event Coach Medama and I knew we had our work cut out for us.

Ocean City had a bad start in the first period of the semi final against Southern Regional. We were six points behind Southern going into the second period but the team was able to post some great scores and we took the back lead. In the final period of the game Southern Regional only needed an average score to take the lead but fell just short giving us the victory and a spot in the final.

We faced Middle township and a very in form Mikey Ciramella in the final. With the tide dropping and conditions deteriorating it was hard for both schools to post a good score in the first two periods. We were leading the game by 12 points prior to Middles last period but in the first few mins Mikey posted the highest score of the event and put his team in a good position to take the win. With 8 mins left in the game we were again left sitting on the bench with nothing to do but hope that no good waves go ridden. Thanks to the dead low tide and us electing to go first after the coin toss, Middle couldnt get the score they needed and we won the final!

Both games were super close but a win is a win. The entire team worked together and never gave up. In a sport like surfing where so many uncontrolable factors come into play, the best surfers dont always win. However true champions find a way to win, and Ocean City always seems to find a way to win!

NSL High School Cup: POSTPONED

The National Surf Leauge postponed the High School Cup originally scheduled for Saturday until Tuesday at 2pm. Southern Regional will face Ocean City to start the event followed by Middle Township vs. Manasquan. The winners of both semis will face each other in the championship final on Wednesday at 4pm. Come out to 1st street in Ocean City and support your schools!!!!

now you've experienced what everyone in Ocean City has been doing all winter long. With constant NE and S swells to go with the multi million dollar sandpump project, this winter was the best winter I've ever been part of. I think its safe to say that everyone in town got enough time in the tube to hold themselves over during the long flat spells summer brings. Thanks you winter. Even tho you were a brutally cold one with your blizzards and pipe bursting low temps, you were a GOOD ONE!! You have satisfied us all... Well at least until hurricane season when we get to get shacked off our minds again!!!!

At the Oakley Surfshop Challenge

7th Street had an honest team made up of our manager Brian Williams, full time employee Sean Santiago, and team riders my brother and I. In the first round we posted a total heat score of 30. Less than 2 points behind the winning team Heritage Surf Shop. Chris without a doubt was pulling the biggest manuevers of the entire event but the MVP for our team had to go to Santi. In the final he posted the score we needed with less than a minute to spare that put us in the #2 spot. Not easy when the surf was as inconsitent as it was in the final round.

Down in New Smyrna for the LandShark Pro with Matt Keenan. Despite the horrible surf and a shark jumping on Gabe Klings back (literally..it happened) we made our heats today and we surf in the round of 32 tomorrow.

Easter weekend is the first time the jersey shore comes alive again after the long brutal winter. Thursday the boardwalk was empty and stores were closed, friday every pizza and tshirt shop was open and thousands of people were "crusin the boards." From here on out all the freshest Philly and New Yorkers will be flocking to the shore each weekend. Your swagger best be at the top of your game!! Second wave is hardest I've ever gotten worked in California. When I re-watched the clip it didnt look as bad as it felt. I slammed my head on the reef and then got drugg across it on my back. Underwater bouncing off the bottom all I could think about was how stoked I was to have a wetsuit on!

Here's some freeze frames from middles. Felt weird surfing in trunks and but good to finally thaw out from all the snow Jersey's been getting this winter. Speaking of snow, the blizzard that just slammed the northeast is suppose to send good swell this way tomorrow for the contest. Hopefully domes can hold the size...we will see

$15 Million Dollar Session

The Army Corps of Engineers have been hard at work, literally pumping "tons" of sand onto the beach in their $15,000,000 beach replenishment project. It was only a 2 foot swell but the way the sand ledge is setup it made the surf heavier then it normally would be in Ocean City. Looks like a bigger swell is on the way, and judging by how it was yesterday it could GO OFF this weekend. My fingers are crossed! Stay posted...Photos by: Jim Gray

Its been flat and FREEZING for over a week and we were itching to get in the water. Thanks to kyle abel and Sahara Sams Oasis we were able to escape the cold and "surf" in trunks on NJ's artifical wave. We were expecting it to be a whole lot easier than it ended up being and even though we payed for it the next morning, it was so much FUN!!!

Ive been in Hawaii for a few days now with Fox's film guy Ryan Moss and photographer Ricky Lesser. The North Shore hasn't really done its thing yet so we've been looking elsewhere for waves to film and shoot. My first morning here the North Shore was pretty maxed out but there looked like a few surfable ones at gas chambers even tho nobody was out.

Although a little skeptical, I paddled out, broke my leash on my first wave, then took a bunch of waves (way bigger than I would have liked to during my first session) on the head. After body surfing across dry reef and then fulfilling my year long craving for Ted's Bakery, I heard from my JerZ buddy Chris Eves that there were waves on the south shore so we meet up with him and surfed bowls. Nothing epic, but fun and it felt so great to surf in trunks for the first time since the summer months at home.

The next day was much the same, North Shore being too big and the swell still on the rise which made us really start thinking about other options. After hearing word that "everyone" (dusty, jordy, ext.) was going to Honalua bay for the massive swell we was decided to fly over to Maui for the super session and scored it absolutely firing!!!

Went to Dover yesterday with V.I.P "Hot Passes" courtesy of Redbull and spent the day in pit row hanging out with #83 driver Brian Vickers and the rest of the crew. I was able to talk to Vickers before the race and we got into a conversation about surfing. He's tried it a few times in Costa Rica and California and was psyched talking about particular sessions he's had and spots he surfed. It's probably not often that surfing is brought up at Nascar events and it was cool to see him so stoked talking about it minutes before the race. Brian Vickers is a bro!!

Thanks to Keith Wescott at Redbull for hooking up the experience and Dave Breisacher for the photos!!!

Back home, but with new friendships and memories!

The best part about traveling is how you always seem to meet the coolest people! My trip to Hatteras had more than its fair share of rad new humans to hang out with. Crusing with the Ergo crew and Real watersports team made for an epic 10 day adventure!! Its impossible to claim one session the best, but this night surf was without a doubt the funniest! Between C-Dog (holding the flash) and Elkus (shooting) getting pounded on the inside and us not being able to see the wave we're riding, this session had a bunch of amazing wipeouts and laughs. Ive been hanging out with the whole crew from Ergo in Rodanthe the past week.
They are down for Easterns and came a week early after claims from Shea Lopez saying there would be fun surf even tho all the reports were calling it to be flat. Pete and the good guys at Ergo let me tag along and sure enough, against all odds, Shea was right and we scored perfect little tubes at a sandbar near by. Pessimisticly flew down to Wrightsville yesterday with Ian Bloch, Matt Keenan and little Mikey C to surprisingly find a little windswell down here. Contest started today and Ian, Mikey and I made our heats. Keenan's had good results at this event in the past and was seeded into the round 64 and spent his time doin some shady craiglist deals at the airport in his quest for some new headphones.

The World's Best Eastcoast Surf Movie Ever????

Just got back from a two week trip to Costa Rica filming with Chaz Loskarn for his new movie "PATIENCE" premiering this July.

Ive been talking to Chaz for the past year about the film and sending him clips that I've gotten from home and other trips. In order to have a good part in the movie we thought it would be best to take a trip somewhere warm with a lot of waves in order to get a ton of clips. After spending time filming with Chaz, seeing the collection of clips he's built up, listening to the music going to be used, and hearing the story line he plans to use for the film...I can honestly say in my opinion Patience will be the greatest east coast movie when it comes out. I'm not going to give away too much but I saw clips of Slater and CJ from France that blew my mind. Not to mention some insane footage of Cory Lopez from the epic day at S-turns that you have all seen the photos of. The movie was filmed in Australia, France, California, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua and of course the East coast. What makes the movie unique is that each surfer has just as good local footage as travel footage. This really showcases each surfer to our full actuality. East coast surfers are a special breed. We can come home from a trip after surfing crystal clear water in trunks and then paddle out in the snow the very next day. You get to see the clips from our hometowns that you know and love, but also get to see the waves we get to surf while traveling that you normally only hear about. If you call the east coast home, Patience is a must see when it premieres in July. Until then check out the trailer and check back here for more updates on the movie as they come.
